New Delhi, October 7: Yahoo fights with Google for dominance in India, resorts to print ads. “Internet is under new management.” No other headline could have better reflected Yahoo’s determination to wrest back its lost glory from the arch rival Google.
It headlines a full page ad appeared on the front page of Times of India, India’s largest circulated English daily. After several market research reports came out suggesting that Google surging past its rivals Yahoo and MSN in emerging economies like India, Brazil and China, Yahoo has made it a point to enhance its popularity as the preferred search engine and web mail service through rigorous ad campaigns.Yahoo, the erstwhile market leader in Internet search has worked out plans to run an ad campaign on Star TV network, India’s leading television network having several channels in many languages. Currently, Yahoo claims to have around 35 million users around the globe. 26 million of these users, interestingly, hail from India. It is because of this position in the global market that Yahoo has chosen India for its new image building campaign.
